Now that you've received your Pata Card Reader, there's a few things you need to do and know to get started.
Requirements
In order to use the Pata Card Reader, you'll need an internet connection to be able to connect your card reader to the app, and also make payments.
Here is the list of accepted card types/issuers:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- American Express
- Maestro (From July 2023, new Maestro cards aren’t issued. Expired cards will be replaced with Debit Mastercard)
The Card Reader accepts the following payment types:
- EMV chip cards
- Contactless cards and digital wallets
- Magstripe cards
Inserting the battery and charging your reader
When you first receive the Card Reader, you'll need to insert the battery.
- With the back of the device facing you, lift up from the indentation at the bottom left corner to detach the back cover
- Insert the battery by sliding it into the exposed slot with the gold connectors at the top aligned.
- After the battery is in place, charge the reader by using an outlet
- Connect the reader to power by plugging the provided cable into the port with the lightning bolt symbol
Turning your Reader on and off
- After the reader is fully charged, hold down the power button on the right hand side until the screen turns on.
- After the card reader is on, press the power button to sleep or wake the device.
- To fully power off the reader, hold down the power button until the power off option is shown on the screen, then select it.
Leaving the device on for extended periods is expected, especially if you're using it on a counter. With a full charge, you can expect the battery to last about eight hours.
Note: Even when it’s not in use, leave the card reader plugged in and powered on to receive automatic software updates.
Change the Settings
Access Settings
- Swipe right from the left edge of the reader screen to reveal a Settings button
- Tap the Settings button
- Enter the admin PIN 07139
Screen timeout
The screen times out when the reader isn’t connected to a power source. The default timeout of 1 hour improves battery performance. To change this:
- Go to the settings
- Select Appearance
- Select a new screen timeout from the dropdown
The device screen turns on automatically after a device interaction occurs (e.g. touching the screen, pressing the power button to wake up the reader), or when the device enters the payments flow and a payment is initiated.
Brightness
- Go to the settings
- Select Appearance
- Use the Sliders under Brightness to change:
- Brightness on battery
- Brightness when plugged in
Next Steps
Once you've done the above, there are a few more steps to complete:
- Connect your Pata Card Reader to the Internet
- Activate your Pata Card Reader
- Start taking payments with your Pata Card Reader
